As the title of the blog says, I have some great insights for you on the Fashion week that recently happened in Pune!
Saturday, September 24th, 2016: The sixth edition of the prestigious Pune Fashion week, presented by BVLGARI, started today with the launch of their luxury Exhibition, the “Luxe Expo” in the afternoon. The Expo boasted of highly adorned ‘signature’ pieces curated by the renowned brands namely, Ducati, Ethos, Polaris, D.A.D [Daljit Auto Design], BMW, Beachcomber Hotel, Supremo Chair and Planter Broucher, Tea Zahn, The Voyage, Vanraj and Audi Pune amongst others.
The glorious evening witnessed the launch of the much-awaited two-day prestigious fashion extravaganza, the ramp show, of the Pune Fashion Week. With unique and extravagant ultra-modern sets, beautifully crafted lighting, models strutted the ramp in stunning designer creations. Day one was a perfect concoction of glamour, glitterati and fashion with Designers Shikha Kothari, Purva Pardeshi, Hina Madhumal, Sangeeta Sharma, Kanchan Kulkarni, Nitya Bajaj, Sharad Raghav and Ashok Maanay showcasing their new collections. International fashion designer, celebrity TV chat host, philanthropist & globe trotter Pria Kataria puri closed the evening, showcasing her new line in support of Girl Child Education, for NGO Smile Foundation on Day one.
Kick-starting the evening were designers Shikha Kothari, Purva Pardeshi and Hina Madumal who presented their capsule collections in one show together. 1997 Design by Shikha Kothari premiered their Fall 2016 collection “Siddha” at the sixth edition of Pune Fashion Week 2016. Hand embroidery, Hand Painting, Origami, Applique & Patchwork, Texturing were the highlights of her collection. Marathi actress Rujuta Shinde walked the ramp for Designer Shikha Kothari.
Designer Purva Pardeshi’s label RED unveiled her collection The Urban Warrior. Symbolized by the strong warrior-like armour adorned by Ravana, the collection made use of opulent fabrics like raw silk, organza and banarasi brocade which encompass the myriad aspects of India’s colossal heritage depicted in the epic and its rich culture.Structured outlines with defined cuts and straight lines marked the silhouettes of the clothes which were designed using vibrant and flamboyant hues of yellow, green, pink, navy blue and of course, the brand’s signature colour RED. Accentuated by metallic embellishments and antique embroidery, the clothes created were a bold statement adding a distinct uniqueness to the overall visual appeal. Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon strutted the ramp graciously as the showstopper for Designer Purva Pardeshi.
Designer Hina Madumal’s collection celebrated the grace and elegance of a woman. The strength of the Brand Hinas Atelier, was constructed looks. Silhouettes included gown and cocktail collection also showing the wedding dresses. The embroidery enhanced and not intrude and distract from the woman’s beauty. Mrs. India Globe Elakshi Morey Gupta was the showstopper for Designer Hina Madumal.
The next in line was the show, which was put together by Designer Sangeeta Sharma and Designer Kanachan Kulkarni. Each of them showcased their capsule collection on the upcoming Bridal and festive season respectively. Designer Sangeeta Sharma presented her Bridal collection “Forget me not” inspired from illium commonly known as flower Lily. Attractive colors of Lily like yellow, oranges, pink, reds and purples ruled the colour palatte. The motifs were inspired by the “the lily & the leafs” and were made of thread work along with a tinch of dabka and chain stitched mostly in golden colour. The collection was simple and elegant to attribute the royalty to the bride. Actress Adah Sharma looked a perfect bride while walking the ramp for Designer Sangeeta Sharma.
All that Glitters, the 2016 festive collection by Kara by Designer Kanchan Kulkarni was a tribute to its Indian roots while still staying true to its western silhouettes. A step away from its previous all Silk collections, All That Glitters, is a blend of silks mixed with tulle and lace and fused with shimmer and beads to stay true to its name. A limited yet elegant colour palette of mainly whites, gold and blacks gives it a minimalistic yet glamorous look. Actress Sarah Jane Dias looked gorgeous as a showstopper in Kanchan’s creation.
The next show was a glittering affair, where Designer Nitya Bajaj showcased her capsule collection “Ritz” and Designer Sharad Raghav showcased his collection “The Pink Mosque”.
Ostentatious, luxurious, regal and truly elegant, Ritz By Nitya Bajaj portrayed the workmanship of Indian craftsmen combined with western silhouettes illuminating glamour and sheer brilliance. Showcasing the rich pearls, elegant Swarovski crystals, the delicate lace and beadwork on rich Indian silks, the collection has it all. The glamorous Brazialian Bollywood actress Bruna Abdullah looked resplendent as Nitya’s showstopper.
Designer Sharad Raghav’s collection “The Pink mosque” was inspired by the pink mosque situated in Iran and showcased Islamic prints with riots of colour. Amit batla walked for Designer Sharad Raghav.
Another breathtaking show was put together by the veteran designer Ashok Maanay, who unveiled his collection “Serenity”. Drapes of six yards of pure fabrics like silk , crepes , georgettes and chiffon embellished with Zari borders woven by the few Heritage weavers of Varanasi , who even to this day weave zari borders and sarees to the royal houses and the elite using zari made of pure silver thread polished in gold in pastel and bright colours beautifully blended with exotic hand crafted techniques of weaving , all unique and impactful. The vibrant flavor, the strong interplay of techniques enhanced the life and richness of the weave. This was further hand embroidered with zardozi, aari and other hand crafted techniques of embroidery. The men’s line had a unique spiritual flair, the collection featured sleek lines and beautiful details making any man feel eloquent. The collection was constructed with chanderi cotton with embellishments featuring some exquisite Aachkans and Aangharakhaas. Actress Pooja Chopra walked the ramp for Designer Ashok Maanay as the showstopper.
The most spectacular show of the day was saved for the evening. Being organized for a very noble cause of supporting Girl Child Education, Designer Priya Kataria Puri had put together this amazing collection called “Pura Vida” for NGO Smile Foundation for the glittering evening. Keeping true to its name, the ‘Pura Vida’ collection was all about effortless style, elegance and a true epitome of femininity. It incorporated new styles of kaftan silhouettes like a maxi kaftan, off shoulder and cold shoulder cuts, jumpsuits, palazzos, dresses, tops, blouses and rompers in pure Italian silk which were all given a chic glamorous avatar. The colour palette was of warm earthen shades of burgundy, yellow, red, black, off-white, olive and leaf green. Chantilly lace, mirror and gold sequence lace, antique gold metallic leaf embellishments added an enchanting touch. Ideal for the upcoming festive season, this Indo-western flavour of Pura Vida offered opportunity to mix and match and play around with the ensemble. The collection represented style, glamour and was fuss free which has been the designer’s ideology since decades. Actress Puja Gupta looked resplendent in Pria’s outfit as she walked the ramp in support of Girl Child education for Smile Foundation.
Mr. World Rohit Khandelwal walked the ramp for ace designer Nivedita Saboo for Pune Fashion Week Grand Finale.
Sunday, 25th September, 2016: The second day of the prestigious and the luxurious 6th edition of the Pune Fashion Week presented by BVLGARI was an extravaganza of style and vogue with a blend of glitz and glamour as the evening unfurled marvelous collections fabricated by designers including Designer Devaki, Anj by Anjoo, Bibi Russell and a make-up show by Zara. Pune’s annual rendezvous with fashion came to a glorious end with couturier Nivedita Saboo showcasing her new collection “Circa 2016”. Mr. World Rohit Khandelwal looked dashing as he walked the ramp for Designer Nivedita as the showstopper, for the dazzling grand finale.
The second day of the 6th edition of the Pune Fashion Week was even more plush and glamorous than the opening day with ace designer and couturier Nivedita Saboo showcasing a spectacular collection in the grand finale. Taking the style quotient of the city a notch higher, couturier Nivedita Saboo played with myriad glistening colours of frosty English evenings, varied heritage techniques and regally elaborate silhouettes as she showcased the theatrically brilliant English renaissance set on this side of the Deccan plateau, Circa 2016.
Celebrating layering and an enchanting spectrum that together explores the limitless boundaries of fashion, the collection remoulds traditional hand-work, combining it with the designer’s signature techniques of pleating, appliqué work and quilting to present a runway that is brought to life with its classically romantic silhouettes. Capturing the poetic elegance and the romanticism of the Shakespearean times, the collection flirts with ruffles and drapes, creating layers to unify the abstract with the fluid in a palette comprising of frozen lavender, rose quartz, old rose, celtic and moonshine grey, sage green, tigerlilly peach, salmon to scarlet. Combining breathtakingly beautiful fabrics such as pure silk, dupion silk, taffeta, silk tulle with touches of satin to portray the regality and distinguished finesse of the bygone years, the Nivedita Saboo Autumn Winter 2016 line was a combination of a capsule collection showcasing wedding couture for the modern & global Indian. From impeccably constructed corsets and royal sherwanis, avant-garde lehengas, versatile gowns with lattice-work collars, gun-metal and gold surface ornamentation on classic Indian silhouettes, the line-up takes you in to its subliminal realm that is so beautifully familiar yet exudes mystery that keeps you intrigued, on your toes and, as always, asking for more. Mr. World Rohit Khandelwal looked dashing as he walked the ramp for Nivedita as the showstopper for the grand finale.
The evening also witnessed FAD, MIT, Int’l Hair and Makeup Zara show wherein makeup artists and hairstyling student Rajvi Vora, Khilti Savla, Kareen Parwani and Shaili Mehta put a fabulous “Creative Fantasy Makeup Fashion Show”. Students paraded their creations down the catwalk with themes like Universe, Snow Flakes, Dark Fantasy, Metallic Beauty, Flutter Beauty, Chess Look, Gemstones, Aqua, Ice Princess and English Candle.
Adding to the fashion quotient were shows of Veteran Designer Devaki of Kanya who showcased her fusion collection “Vaarsa” inspired from ethnic Maharashtrian fabric, embroidery inspired by Maharashtrian jewellery like waghnaki in pearls and zardosi and modern styles. Miss India Asia Pacific 2013 Shrishti Rana walked the ramp as showstopper for Designer Devaki.
Anj by Kouture showcased their latest bridal collection “Adarza” inspired by the “Sheesh Mahal” at Amer Fort, Jaipur. The collection incorporated motifs and embroidery from the intricate architecture of the palace. The color scheme of the collection takes you on a journey from pastels to deep shades of ivory, gold, peach, blush pink, sun yellow to deep maroon and red. The collection included heavy bridal lehengas, anarkalis and lighter range for other functions for family and friends. Actress Waluscha De Sousa looked a beautiful bride in Anj’s bridal collection as she walked the ramp as their showstopper.
Bangladesh Designer Bibi Russell showcased her collection inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and was a homage & tribute to Gandhi-ji and the crafts people of Rajasthan. The collection was made with incredible products of Rajasthan to support the fine artisans and craftspeople, to preserve their heritage and improve and innovate and help them sustain a better livelihood. Model Arry Dabas walked the ramp for Bibi Russell as the showstopper.
All in all Pune Fashion Week 2016 was an opulent affair with the best in fashion, luxury and Bollywood all coming together under one roof, making the 6th edition, very stylish, luxurious and innovative.
